Following a successful Sunday on the Shark lane condition at the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open, Brenda Mack overtook Stefanie Nation for the lead in the PBA Women's Tour Trials.

Last year, the U.S. Women's Open, a United States Bowling Congress event, was held for the first time since 2003, and Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., capped off the tournament's return with a win over Team USA member Shannon O'Keefe of Brookfield, Wis.

The U.S. Women's Open, a USBC event, will return this summer and will once again determine the field for the PBA Women’s Series. The qualifying scores from the event, which features the world's best women bowlers, will also serve as the PBA Women’s Tour Trials.

The PBA Women's Series, presented by USBC, will return for the 2008-09 Denny's PBA Tour season with at least seven events. The Women's Series field will be primarily determined through the PBA Women's Tour Trials, which uses the qualifying scores from the U.S. Women's Open.

The top 12 Tour Trials participants will earn an exemption for the 2008 PBA Women's Series.
The top 28 Tour Trials participants will be eligible to compete in the PBA Mixed Doubles Championship at the National Bowling Stadium, Reno, Nevada beginning January 4, 2009.
