Golden, who gave the PBA a try as a bowler for 11 tournaments, cut short his career on the lanes in 1961 to become the PBA's Tournament Director. In the 22 years since, he has never missed a tournament or a telecast, and his streak has surpassed the 750-tournament mark without a miss. When Golden took the position of National Tournament Director, he chose to forego the normal lifestyle of home and family to travel the PBA Tour for more than 35 weeks a year. Known as "Goose" by his PBA family, Golden has helped develop and refine many of the policies of the PBA, making contributions to the Pro-Am, Pro Tour Qualifier and tournament formats. But Golden has been more than just a tournament official over the years. He has given advice to young and old pros alike. He has acted as peacemaker, marriage counselor, babysitter and financial advisor to "his boys" during his years on tour.
